High Point University seeks a motivated and collaborative Assistant Director of Athletic Bands to help build a thriving, high-profile athletic band program aligned with university goals. The successful candidate will assist the Director of Athletic Bands in all aspects of instruction, direction, and administration of the Spirit of High Point Athletic Bands, with an emphasis on student recruitment and retention, program development, and game-day excellence. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position that will require regular evening and weekend commitments throughout the academic year and summer months. Primary responsibilities include assisting with the design, instruction, and execution of athletic band rehearsals, providing musical and visual instruction, leading or supervising sectionals and student leadership training, collaborating on artistic direction, serving as a game-day leader at approximately 30 events annually, coordinating with marketing and game operations staff, participating in recruitment and retention of student musicians, assisting with administrative operations, contributing original music arranging, and supervising student workers and outside staff. Qualifications include a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Music, Music Education, or related field or equivalent professional experience, experience with athletic bands (university-level preferred), and preferred skills such as success in recruitment, background in wind conducting, and experience with music notation software. The role requires proactive, organized, and dependable individuals with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to travel as needed. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Athletic Bands and is accountable for supporting rehearsals, providing game-day leadership, contributing to recruitment and enrollment growth, and supporting administrative and creative planning of the ensembles.
